Training and Technical Assistance

As a State Resource Office, Parents Anonymous® of South Carolina, Inc. provides training and technical assistance to individuals and agencies interested in providing the Parents Anonymous® shared leadership model of mutual support to parents in their community.                    Training is                                   provided                                           for group                               facilitators,                                  children's                                     program                                                                                    coordinators, and other volunteers interested in outreach to parents.

Parents Anonymous® also provides training to agencies and individuals regarding developing shared leadership with parents and other service recipients.

Programs

Parents Anonymous® groups are parent-driven and strength-based. Professionally-trained facilitators partner with parents attending groups to determine the content of meetings and the pace at which learning occurs.

As parents                                     discuss                                            parenting                                                                                      skills and                                                                                            behaviors,                                                                                    along with

their rationale for using them, facilitators observe and encourage parents to identify and take responsibility for their problems, develop their own solutions, and serve as role models for one another.

Parents are resources to each other, and the facilitator is a resource to the group as well as a link to other resources in the community.

Mutual Support Groups

A companion program to the Parents Anonymous® mutual support group, the Parents Anonymous® Children's Program provides                           children with a                                      safe environment                                  in which to                                      experience                            nurturing                              interactions with                     adults and develop healthy social skills.

In an atmosphere of age-appropriate play and activity, children are encouraged to explore healthy expressions of emotion, develop problem-solving skills, and become leaders in their community.
